All divers, from beginners to experienced divers should use a dive computer.

Dive computers are mandatory in some dive resorts around the world. They allow divers to remain underwater longer and improve the safety of the dive.

Lately, LED underwater light has come into vogue. It can now be regarded as in the vanguard of lighting technology. Diving The Reef Near Cairns, Queensland, Australia

I’m here in Cairns Australia and what else to do here than scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef? I guess as long as I’m next to the worlds largests living thing I might as well explore a tiny part of it in detail. The day I arrived I booked a four day scuba diving cruise which includes 11 dives (2 of which will be night dives) , with all meals included. The company was called Pro Dive.

We left for the reef two days later. The boat was big and spacious and I even got my own ensuite cabin, which was great for changing after every dive. The reality is that it was pretty crazy. The schedule each day was – wake up at 6:30 and dive , have a hot breakfast , dive , have a scrumptous lunch , dive , have cake , dive , have dinner , more diving , sleep. Life was reduced to that of a gold fish , just swimming and eating which was exactly what I was after}. I believe now that sea sickness tablets are more important than birth control tablets in the great scheme of things. People have been breeding since the start of humanity but only lately have people been afloat on a floating , motor driven machine in the great seas of the world. In other words , thank the man upstairs I aquired those tablets because the sea was very rough and they were my magic wand.

The dives were great and the things I saw were pretty amazing. I witnessed everything from sea turtles to hammerhead sharks and heaps of beautiful coral and interesting fish just swimming all around you. Because of the popular movie ‘Finding Nemo’ the fish of the great barrier reef have been christened new names. When you return from a dive you saw Nemo as opposed to a Clownfish. Being underwater though is amazing , it’s an alien world undeer the surface and being weightless is a great experience. Now I can safely say that I feel confident in the sea , equalizing my ears is childs play so I know that I am ready to continue diving in other destinations.
The instructors were totally fun and interesting as well. We had a briefing before each scuba dive and afterwards we all complied our log books with the details of the dives. Also , the experienced~food was the best I’ve eaten} so far in Australia. some of the food was sun dried tomatoes and Mexican food , and freshly baked bread and tropical fruit. It was definitely good value , that’s a fact.

I think that if you don’t go diving when you holiday in Cairns it’s like visiting Paris and not looking at the Eifel Tower, In other words, its a must do.

A Locals Favourite Great Barrier Reef Dive Sites Off Cairns

Cairns, Australia is a popular dive tourism destination with arguably the best Great Barrier Reef diving and snorkeling out there .Thousands of tourists are taken out everyday by the large catamarans to snorkel and scuba dive the various local reefs and join in the various marine attractions available.

Agincourt Ribbon Reefs.
Two permanent pontoons, operated by Quicksilver Cruises, are moored on the Agincourt Reefs, allowing access to numerous excellent dive sites.The platforms are very well organised and safety proceedures for snorkeling and scuba diving are among the highest in the industry. The Channels offer interesting swim-thru’s and caverns, while The Gardens are renowned for their exceptional abundance of brightly-coloured reef fish.Blue Wonder is a breathtaking drift dive to beyond 40 m, while Nursery Bommie is a awe inspiring bommie where pelagic fish school to feed.

Norman Reef.
The site of Great Adventure’s platform, Norman Reef has many exciting dive sites along its ocean side. Coral gardens are found in the shallows, and divers often see reef sharks, gropers, maori wrasse and pelagic fish patrolling the 30 m drop-off.

Hasting Reef.
Bommies, walls, caves and coral gardens are all features of Hastings Reef. Gorgonians, soft corals and sea whips cover the walls and bommies. Reef and pelagic fish are numerous, and stingrays, Maori wrasse, moray eels and reef sharks are usually observed. Underwater photographers will find themselves in heaven,with everything from amazing nudibranchs to schools of trevally.

Flynn Reef.
The pinnacles and hard coral areas are quality dive sites at Flynn Reef. Gordon’s Mooring, where a number of bommies attract large numbers of reef and pelagic fish, is considered the best.

Thetford Reef.
Macro-photographers will find plenty of nudibranchs, tubeworms, crabs, brightly-coloured reef fish and pretty corals as subject matter in the coral gardens on this location.

Moore Reef.
Moore Reef has a number of beautiful hard coral gardens that are worth a dive, but the ultimate diving is along the reef drop-off. Here an assortment of gorgonians, sea whips and soft corals cling to the wall to depths of 30m. A great selection of reef and pelagic fish frequent the vicinity.

Sudbury Reef.
Shallow coral gardens and walls to 35 m can be explored on Sudbury Reef. Reef fish are everywhere. You are also likely to come accross hawksbill turtles and giant gropers.
