What is the difference between the Ripstik and the Wave Board? The Ripstik and the Wave Board are very similar, but at the same time quite different boards. The most obvious difference is the look of the board, but there is more then that. There are also many similarities, which we will explore as well. First let us discuss the similarities of the boards. They are both designed to propel the rider forward without ever needing to touch the ground. The riding style is often the same as well as the movement in your hips and shoulders to get the board moving. Both of the boards are made from the same durable plastic, torsion bar and the riding concept is the same. Both boards have removable and replicable decks so if you get sick of the color or design that you have then you can switch it up. Both boards also have different colored wheels that are also interchangeable. Now the differences are going to be why you choose to ride the Ripstik or the Wave Board. The Ripstik and Wave Board look very different, that is the first and most obvious difference. The Ripstik, also referred to as the ripstick or the ripstik caster board, comes in solid color designs.

The wave board, which also has a few solid deck designs, tends to have more wild designs, mixing colors and words and symbols. Ripstik sticks with the simplicity of awesome looking solid color boards, while the wave board has great looking designs. The boards both have different shaped decks and grip plates. Although both are meant to do the same thing, which is give your feet a surface that will grip so your feet do not slide off, again they are different in design. The Wave Board has 77mm wheels, while the ripstik was 76mm wheels. The ripstik has a longer torsion bar, which is the middle bar that both the boards use to get the twisting motion need to ride. The Wave Board was started in 2004, while the Ripstik came out a few years later. The ripstik is manufactured by the Razor Company, which also is one of the world’s largest manufactures of kick scooters. With the backing of Razor, and because Razor is very popular, the ripstik tends to be the more well known board. The wave board however is gaining great popularity and a good reputation. Whatever the differences or similarities are it is going to come down to which board you like should be what board you ride. They both ride and feel very similar, but there are a lot of great differences that are going to help you decide which the best is for you. Is it going to be the name that you like, the designs that you like, the colors, or something different. Although each board is different in ways and the same in ways they are both awesome and fun boards to ride. You get the thrill of carving like you are on a snowboard or surf board, you can do some awesome tricks, as well as just cruise around.

About the Author:

The ripstik is a new type of skateboard which resembles the wave board. The Ripstick is created by a different company than streetsurfing but has the same capabilities.

The Xbox is a video game console produced by Microsoft. It was Microsoft’s first step into the gaming console market, and competed with Sony’s PlayStation 2, Sega’s Dreamcast, and Nintendo’s GameCube. The integrated Xbox Live service allows players to compete online. The name for the Xbox was originally the Direct X-box as it came from a group of Microsoft Direct X developers, but later changed to Xbox after focus testing. Popular launch games for the console included Dead or Alive 3, Amped: Freestyle Snowboarding, Halo: Combat Evolved, Fuzion Frenzy and Project Gotham Racing.

Game Boy – handheld video game Console for Tetris

The Xbox Release
The Xbox was released on November 15, 2001 in North America, February 22, 2002 in Japan, and March 14, 2002 in Australia and Europe. It is the predecessor to Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console. It was discontinued in late 2006, although the final Xbox game (Madden NFL 09) was released in August 2008. Support for out-of-warranty Xbox consoles were discontinued on March 2, 2009, although in-warranty repairs will still be done.

Playstation – It’s Time to Play Game

The Xbox Hardware

The Xbox was the first major console to yield a hard disk drive, used primarily for storing game saves compressed in ZIP archives and content downloaded from Xbox Live. This eliminated the need for separate memory cards. An Xbox user could rip music from standard audio CDs to the hard drive, and these songs were used for the custom soundtracks in some games.

The Xbox was the first gaming product to feature Dolby Interactive Content-Encoding Technology, which allows real-time Dolby Digital encoding in game consoles. Previous game consoles could only use Dolby Digital 5.1 during non-interactive “cut scene” playback.

The Xbox is based on commodity PC hardware and is much larger and heavier than its contemporaries. This is largely due to a bulky tray-loading DVD-ROM drive and the standard-size 3.5 inch hard drive. The Xbox has also pioneered safety features, such as breakaway cables for the controllers to prevent the console from being pulled from the surface it rests on.

Teenagers are arguably the hardest ones to shop for. They are going through many changes and mood swings and one is never too sure what they truly will enjoy. Especially with technology and styles changing so quickly shopping for your teenager can put you on the good or bad side very quickly. Given the difficulty of deciding on gift ideas, here are some helpful suggestions to put a smile on that hormone driven teenager.

One gift that ever teenager wants would be an MP3 Player or IPOD. Most likely the IPOD because they tends to be the “in” thing, however even phones are able to do the same trick. Surprise your teen with a new phone. Each carrier has many different options, colors, and designs. This way you serve two purposes, one a way to stay in touch and two your teen gets to enjoy listening to music. Of course it is also more cost effective to buy one phone that can play music than a phone and an IPOD.

Another piece of technology that teens will enjoy this holiday season is a portable DVD player. Of course I would not recommend this be taken to school, but on those long car rides, it would sure be nice to occupy your bored teenagers with a movie player. Or maybe you can all enjoy watching a DVD together. A little family time could never hurt.

Game systems, video games, portable gaming now belongs to children of all ages, but certainly teenagers will never refuse. These days’ teens can enjoy gaming wherever they are, at home or in the car. Getting them an Xbox, WII or PS3 this holiday will definitely win you cool points with them and their friends. Video games never get old and they are making some that improve your mind, eyes and vocabulary. Learning is now fun and disguised as a video game. Of course one may argue that teens already spend enough time by themselves with their friends. Why can’t we do a family activity together? Ok, there are games like “Scene It” or “Guitar Hero” that plug into your television and create some family friendly competition. Go up against your teen to see who can play the best lead guitar. You will look like the coolest parent. Plus they can always invite their friends over to play at home, rather than using your precious gas and money at the mall.

Cameras and Camcorders are another gift idea that will definitely bring a smile to your teen’s face. They can take pictures or video of their family, friends and outings. Make a cool photo album or add a video to You-tube. Your teen will be creative and inventive with these gifts. Another idea to keep the creativity rolling is a new computer. Desktop or notebook computers are probably more affordable now than they ever were. Plus they come with printers or cameras. A teen in today’s world should know how to use a computer, not only to type a paper or get a job, but to be inventive and creative. Did you see the commercial the kid made with his i-phone? It was amazing and featured on television. Could your teen create the next commercial or write a song? The software is out there to help. Even though the internet may not be the safest place for a teen, the computer can still provide some valuable skills.

Enough gifts for the indoors, here are some suggestions if you would want your teen to be outside. Maybe a new snowboard, wakeboard, paintball gun, skateboard, basketball hoop, softball tee, and there are many other ideas. Just choose an activity that he or she enjoys or that you can play together. It is never too late to learn a new sport with your teen.

Shopping for your teen this holiday season should now be a little easier with these helpful suggestions. Now your moody hormone ridden teen can wear a smile on their face and so can you.

cool snowboarding names

cool snowboarding names

It wasn’t that long ago that the little orange ovals posted over snowboard parks worldwide did not exist. When freestyle snowboarding starting to move further and further mainstream the resorts and the snowboarders decided to create a method for approaching the features in a park and they called it Smart Style. But what does it mean? I know that the orange oval means there’s going to be some fun stuff to hit, but what is this ‘snowboarder’s code’ all about?

There are four parts to Smart Style:

Make a Plan

Pretty much common sense, this section is about knowing what you want hit in the terrain park before you drop. This means not only knowing what features you are going for and where they are, but also the trick you want to do and the mechanics (speed, approach, take off, execution, and landing) involved. This must be why they call it Smart ‘Style’, because if you took that approach to your runs I don’t think you would ever fall.

This implies a reserved style of riding, a ‘stick to what you know’ mentality. On the weekends or when snowboarding a packed run this would be a pretty good approach to avoid hitting or being hit by others.

But what about progression?

Look Before You Leap

Ties right in with the last point, just know everything about what you hit before you are hitting it. Also pay attention to conditions. If it gets cloudy then the temperature can drop drastically, colder snow moves faster so never assume that the feature will be the same.

Another really important idea brought up is the spotter. Especially for bigger kickers, you don’t want to be mid 1080 looking down at the skier that climbing up the landing for his pole. Every snowboarder throwing down at the park probably has someone spotting him. They not only make sure the only thing you have to worry about is doing your trick, but they make sure that the new kid behind you doesn’t just assume you landed and then land on you.

Snowboarding is inherently dangerous, it is definitely worth it to take the time to check off all the things within your control that could go wrong so you only have to worry about landing… right? Well said Smart Style.

Easy Style It

This is where they talk about progression. The first rule is to know your limits, which is of course necessary if you want to push them. It’s all about working way up, taking tricks from flat, to small jump, to the kickers. Don’t assume that just because you’ve got one trick then you have the others… make sure you really know the tricks.

People spend hours a day doing hundreds of laps, lifting thousands of reps and snowboarding is a lot like that… except you are going to need to do hundreds of backside 360s to know you can do a backside 360. That’s the essence of being good at any sport, repetition and easy yet constant progression.

Did you know that inverted aerials (rodeos, backflips, etc.) were not even allowed for a while? If you did one you would be greeted by ski patrol at the bottom of the run. Crazy! Things finally changed and parks use the term ‘not recommended’. Inverted aerials put you in a position where you may not land on your feet, so you need to know exactly what you are doing in the air. Get a trampoline first and work your way from there. Don’t just try a backflip on the first medium kicker of the day.

Respect Gets Respect

Like being in kindergarten all over again. Just understand that terrain parks are risky business regardless of skill. Also note that other people are around you and anything can happen (like being cut off on the freeway you know?).

Calling your start is just a really awesome way of letting everyone know who’s next. Ever been caught up at the pipe and you drop but then another guy drops and everything just gets screwed up? Always call you start on a busy feature to ensure that you and only you are going for it. If you fall and you aren’t hurt get the heck out of the way spotter or not. You’ll have plenty of time to laugh about it later. I have seen people blow right past the spotter (who at this point is screaming and flailing his arms) only to land on the guy who already is having hard time, what with the fall and everything.

So now that I’ve been through it again I think Smart Style is a pretty good approach to snowboarding in general, not just freestyle terrain. The good thing is that after reviewing it I can say that for the most part we all follow it, whether we knew it existed or not. We are all snowboarders and snowboarders abide by the snowboarder’s code: Know the code! Smart Style!

You can get the full scoop from http://www.terrainparksafety.org. It’s a pretty cool site anyway, check it out.

2009 snowboarding music

2009 snowboarding music

It sometimes feels like holiday camps have always been with us – retro images of rickety chalets stacked end to end like farm buildings that might have fallen out of the sky spring all-too-easily to mind. But with the current economy as robust as a sickly child, more and more people are looking to stay in the UK this summer, choosing to head off for stints with the family in parks and camps you thought you’d left behind when you graduated from short trousers.

Festival venues

The holiday camp first began creeping into a new generation’s consciousness as the perfect venue for festivals and conventions: you could see your favourite bands, dance until the morning light, and then stagger twenty feet to your chalet and collapse gratefully onto your bunk. No standing in a road in the middle of the English countryside late at night trying to vainly flag down a cab, no need to erect a tent and you get to use your own shower in the morning before you go out to do it all again.

The All Tomorrow’s Parties indie music festival started in 1999 at the Pontin’s Camber Sands Holiday Park, the first event curated by Mogwai. Since then it has spread to Spain and the US, but still takes over British holiday camps three times a year. The latest incarnation, curated by The Breeders, took place in May 2009 at Butlins Minehead resort. The line-up included CSS, Tricky, Bon Iver and Gang Of Four, but it wasn’t the eclectic nature of the bill that most impressed a journalist friend who was in attendance: “I have never been so clean at a festival in my life!” he marvelled, vowing to go back to their next event which will be at the same venue in early December, this time helmed by My Bloody Valentine.

Accommodation

It isn’t just the way of thinking that’s changed at Britain’s holiday camps; most have had the kind of extensive makeover that even Joan Rivers would balk at. Forget primary colours and grass verges’ these days, Britain’s holiday camps look like people imagined the future might in the 1950s. At their top end, Butlins are showcasing their upward mobility with the Shoreline and Ocean hotels at their resort in Bognor Regis. The former looks especially grand and wouldn’t seem out of place hovering somewhere in the background of a Bond movie. Their BlueSkies apartments in Minehead put you in mind of the Miami shore, though not when it’s raining.

Haven too offers its own deluxe accommodation, but, perhaps more pleasingly, you can rent yurts at their resorts. And talking about spending the night under canvas, Centre Parcs, who to my mind were created as an extravagant ploy to get more people camping, have an Exclusive Lodge at the top of their accommodation range you could fit my flat in; it comes complete with an outdoor hot tub, plus sauna and steam rooms.

Even Parkdean, noted for their extensive network of caravan parks, now offers Scandinavian-style lodges at seven of their sites, so you and your brood can pretend to be the Swiss Family Robinson. Hoseasons has an adult-only park where you and your partner can gaze happily into each other’s eyes without fear of being hit in the head by an errant football from a teenage boot.

Activities and entertainment

When not lounging in your hot tub, trying to find the door/flap of your yurt, or punching the air to your favourite band there are plenty of other ways to enjoy your time. Parkdean are doing their best to poke obesity in the eye with their SportXtra package; instructors give you the chance to improve your football, basketball or tag rugby skills. The holiday company also offers snowboarding, surfing, diving and fishing packages at some of their parks. You can go fishing at Hoseasons Otter Falls Park, or if you’re feeling more languid, try the beauty and spa treatments at Darwin Forest Century Park. Hoseasons has a pet-friendly policy so you can walk your dog in the lush countryside or on one of the expansive beaches that surround a number of their resorts.

At Park Resorts it’s Chico Time (which must be very wearing if you are actually Chico as then it’s Chico Time all the time). At Pontin’s you can opt for either Joe Pasquale or Blue’s Duncan James, though presumably not on the same stage, which is a shame as that’s something we’d happily pay to see. Butlins – when not playing host to a myriad of indoor music festivals – appear to have booked very nearly all of the finalists from this year’s Britain’s Got Talent TV show as well as the WWE Raw Superstars; quite the coup considering these wrestling stars normally play arenas the length and breadth of the UK. Ditto McFly, who head to Butlins Minehead resort for a show later in the year. So forget foreign shores for once; all you’re looking for could be right here at home…

Snowboarding is an adventure sport, much younger than surfing, skateboarding and skiing. Its history runs back to the 1960s, when this sport was developed in the United States, after conceiving inspiration from the predecessors of this sport. It is an item in the Winter Olympics too. Just like skiing, surfing and skateboarding, snowboarding also involves moving at good speed. The surface is snow and the movement is downward from a snow covered hill or mountain top. The rider can balance himself/herself on a snowboard, jumping over the hillocks and performing amazing stunts while in the air.

It requires special skills and courage to take up snowboarding. The rider has to wear protective cloth to ensure protection against the ice cold weather. If you choose the location right, snowboarding is not a risky sport. It is an adventure sport, but not riskier than similar forms of sport, which have ocean waves and solid ground as surface. The technique has to be right, so is the selection of snowboards.

Snowboarding has been served by quite a few companies that designed strong, reliable snowboards, which guarantee better stability and pace for snowboarding. The main equipment is the snowboard, which is attached to the boots. The early history of snowboarding goes back to 1965, when Sherman Poppen designed Snurfer, which was essentially a skateboard without wheels. Then in the 1970s and 80s, much innovation was brought into the designing of snowboards. Slowly, ski resorts became open to the idea of opening their space for snowboarders and there began the history of snowboarding.

Free ride, freestyle and free carve are the main styles of snowboarding. They all are adopted at varying pace by snowboarding enthusiasts. In freestyle, you can find manmade obstacles placed in the path and the snowboarders manoeuvring over the obstacles with much agility and flexibility. Seeing the action is quite an interesting thing, with the riders going past at a good speed and performing gravity defying stunts.

Snowboarding enthusiasts also should observe the safety precautions to be safe. Protective gear are designed in good numbers. Goggles are a must to ensure protection to eyes and to prevent temporary blindness from happening, especially in a bright day. Essential protection needs to be given to the wrists, knees, head, shoulders, etc. The key thing is to be able to identify the origin of an avalanche. Also be alert enough not to trigger an avalanche. Emergency response at time of an avalanche about to happen is also a key skill required by snowboarders.

Snowboarding as an adventure sport has got the attention of several publications and now there are several magazine available out there, solely for the purpose of telling you about snowboards, safety gear and snowboarding holidays.

Nobody knows why snowboarding was invented so late. It doesn’t matter, once people get used to snowboarding, it is one smooth ride. All the beholders enjoy a snowboarding competition event, where the riders pace down the terrains, go up in the air and perform various tricks, while ensuring a safe, comfortable landing.
